What is the TX BM Community Truck?
We are a group of Texas-based Burning Man participants who share space on a commercial freight truck to haul our gear to and from Black Rock City. By pooling resources, we save money, reduce our environmental footprint, and avoid the hassle of towing trailers across the desert.
How much does it cost?
You pay based on the cubic feet you reserve. The per-cubic-foot rate is set each season at the conclusion of the interest phase, and published on the How It Works page. Payment is due by the deadline shown on your reservation — your spot is not confirmed until paid.
For reference, last year was $10 per cubic foot. Items are measured in inches and volume is rounded up to the next cubic foot.
How do I sign up?
See How It Works for the full step-by-step process. If you're here during registration phase, that's fine as long as we still have space available.
What size containers should I use?
The Stackable HDX 27-gallon totes with the DIAMOND lid pattern are the approved totes to use. Bike boxes are also required for your bikes. If not, your bike can get seriously damaged in transit. If you have a trike that you cannot disassembled into a box, please list it as an Oddly Shape item. All containers must be sturdy, stackable, clearly labeled on every side, and zip-tied shut (velcro zip ties, recommended). No garbage bags, loose items, or open-top bins. No bins with wheels! Lose items or materials should be racheted together.
Can I ship my bicycle?
Yes! Pack your bike in a proper bike box (available free from most bike shops for free, call them early!). Secure all loose parts inside the box, pad the frame, and label the box on every side. Bike boxes count toward your reserved cubic footage. If you have a trike that cannot be disassembled and packed into a box, please list it as an Oddly Shaped Item.
WE DO NOT SHIP E-BIKE BATTERIES. Find another way to get your battery to the playa. If the truck is pulled over and a lithium ion battery is found, you will be personally responsible for paying fines starting at $16,000 per battery.
Do I have to load and unload my own stuff?
Yes. You (or a designated friend) must be present at the scheduled load-in in Texas and at the unload on playa. The same applies for the return trip. If you cannot be there, you must arrange a trustworthy proxy and add them as an authorized designee to your reservation.
What if I need to cancel my reservation?
All booked space is final sale — no refunds. If you need to cancel and the truck is full, contact us to coordinate the sale of your space to the next person on the waitlist.
Is there a waitlist?
If the truck fills up, new registrations are placed on a waitlist in the order received. If space opens up (due to cancellations or lapsed space holds), we'll notify you by email and hold your space for 48 hours to confirm and pay.
What happens if the truck is searched or delayed?
We reserve the right to open and inspect any container. If a prohibited item is found, the person responsible bears all associated costs, including DOT fines (up to $186,000 per violation) and delay charges. Please review the Prohibited Items list carefully.
Can I ship food, water, or ice?
Non-perishable, sealed food is generally fine. Do not ship water — it is extremely heavy and puts the truck at being over the weight limit. Buy water at a closer supply point or arrange delivery on playa instead. No loose ice, dry ice, or perishable items — the truck is not refrigerated and takes multiple days to arrive. Propane and other compressed gases are prohibited. DO NOT SHIP ANYTHING FLAMMABLE, and fire dancers, please be aware of fumes still on your fire props. We will remove them if we smell it.
Where does the truck depart from and arrive?
Load-in locations and times are published on the Schedule page once confirmed. We have 1 stop per major Texas metros (Austin, Houston, Dallas). On playa, unload location will be communicated before the event.
How do I contact the organizers?
Email us at admin@txbmcommunitytruck.com. We try to respond within 48 hours.
I want to volunteer! How do I get involved?
We love our volunteers!!! At the time of your registration, you will be asked to opt into volunteering towards the end of the form, or you can opt in from you reservation page in your account. We always need hands on deck for load-in and load-out's, any and all help is mega appreciated!
How do I measure cubic feet (CuFt)?
Length x width x height = CuFt.
We only accept CuFt in WHOLE numbers. Ex: 27-gallon totes come out to 5.03 cuft, and you must round up to the next whole number. So the tote would be 6 cuft. By rounding up, you are helping us to ensure the truck does not become overloaded.

Can I make changes to my reservation?
Changes to your reservation can be made at any time before making payment. Once you pay, your reservation is finalized and we cannot issue refunds. If you need extra space after paying, email admin@txbmcommunitytruck.com. However, there are no guarantees additional space will be available.
